400 PCs and 200 smartphones

Socomec has just started a partnership with Emmaus Connect Strasbourg and the University of Strasbourg Foundation to distribute 400 reconditioned computers and 200 smartphones to people who do not have sufficient resources to purchase them. Students and families, who are particularly affected by a digital divide that is constantly widening due to the pandemic, will be the main beneficiaries of this project. The Group therefore confirms its commitment to regional development and the circular economy.

"These computers and smartphones will enable people with limited resources to be equipped and therefore to be able to access essential services," says Thomas Lecourt, Emmaus Connect regional manager in Strasbourg. The equipment will be reconditioned by organisations running back-to-work programmes and unemployed people.

A second life

"We were very touched that Socomec thought of our students at a time when the health crisis is making the situation particularly critical for those who do not have adequate computer equipment", says Alice Couégnas, Head of the University of Strasbourg Foundation. Some of the computers will also be given to the General Federative Association of Students in Strasbourg (AFGES), in order to facilitate the management of food distribution to students. Coline Fromont, head of sustainable development at Socomec, is delighted that these PCs and smartphones "which have become unsuited to our industrial and commercial requirements can be given a second life."
